COVID Vaccinations Have Begun!
January 16, 2021
Dear Friends and Family,
We recognize that this has been an extremely challenging year for long-term care staff and residents, as well as their loved ones. We want to express our deep gratitude to our staff for their courage and commitment throughout this pandemic. Likewise, we thank all of our residents’ families for their understanding and patience during this trying time when you are unable to see your loved ones in person.
We are pleased to be able to report that as of Monday, January 4 our staff and residents who wanted to receive the COVID-19 vaccination have received the first shot. All residents who wanted to receive the vaccination completed a consent form. There is no charge for the vaccine.
The vaccine requires two doses to ensure the best results. The second dose will be given approximately 21 to 28 days after the first dose.
We encourage our residents and staff to get this vaccine. The elderly population has a much higher risk for getting very sick, being hospitalized, or dying from COVID-19. The vaccine has been shown to provide a great deal of protection against serious illness due to COVID-19. We also encourage our families and community to get vaccinated – the more of us that do so, the better we can protect all of us against potential outbreaks. We can save lives.
Both vaccines that are currently available have gone through testing and clinical trials to ensure they meet the highest safety standards. The vaccines are also safe if you have already had the COVID-19 virus.
We will continue to take all necessary precautions after the vaccine is administered, including wearing personal protective equipment and conducting regular testing to ensure the safety of our residents and staff. We will also work with public health officials to determine how/when to adjust our policies for visitations and social activities. We will, of course, keep you updated.
The vaccine will be a lifesaving turning point in the fight against COVID-19.
